Green — new tradition or excuse?
I am starting to see a disturbing trend with my friends. I am getting electronic Christmas cards all in the name of being green and leaving a smaller carbon footprint on the earth. While I applaud them for sending me anything at all, it distresses me to read that they are sending an electronic card this year because it is the green thing to do. I certainly understand why, but at the same time, there is just nothing more wonderful than opening that hand-addressed card with a personalized signature on the inside. So my question is this… what is the real motivation for sending me that electronic card? Are you just too lazy to actually pick out a card, sign it, stamp it and mail it? Please don’t get me wrong. I’m all for electronic mail. It’s great for basic communication. But I don’t think I will ever be able to give up sending out my Christmas cards all in the name of being green.
